Another Birthday...Yippee!

My daughter-in-law, Sarah, turned thirty this month. I think she felt a little weird (old) about reaching the big 3-0, but hey, age is just a number, right? Besides, birthdays are a blessing. Treat them as such.

Over the years I’d like to think that I’ve sufficiently coached Sarah in the art of embracing and owning your age no matter what it is. There are too many other things in life to stress over. Don’t let your age be one of them.

Now, I didn’t always feel this way. It took some time. But over the years I’ve learned a thing or two about getting older. Here are a few of my favorites (and yes, I do practice what I preach):

  • Learn from your mistakes, but don’t stress over them.

  • Take time out to enjoy life’s journey and don’t let it rush by in a blur.

  • Sit down once in a while and let someone else do the dishes, fold the clothes, or clean the toilet (or just do it later).

  • Eat cake (or your favorite naughty food) on your birthday even at breakfast.

  • Be kind and smile. You’ll have fewer wrinkles.

  • Practice positivity.Lord knows there’s enough negativity in the world that we certainly don’t need to practice that!

  • Surround yourself with people you love and who love you in return. There are too many people in this world for us to be lonely. Besides, God didn’t create us to be hermits.

  • Read.I don’t just say this because I’m a writer. It’s just good to occasionally have someone else’s voice in your head.

  • Don’t take yourself too seriously.Be humble.I guarantee, you’re not as important as you think you are.

So I write all of this to say enjoy every day and treat your birthday as the special day it is.

Happy birthday, Sarah!
